Applicant Selection

Only a limited number of candidates per session can be accommodated; therefore, there can be no guarantee of admission. Applications are reviewed by an objective selection process without regard to race, religion, sex, ethnic background, age, or disability status so far as it is safe for the student to handle firearms.

An independent selection committee will meet to review completed applications and objectively select the candidates with the top scores. Acceptance and successful progression through the Police Academy is contingent upon willingness to complete the required Federal criminal background check.


Steps for Applying

  • Must be a citizen of the United States
  • Must be 21 years of age or older at the time of application
  • Have evidence of a high school diploma or GED
  • Successfully pass the National Peace Officer Standards and Training (NPOST) exam consisting of math, reading, grammar and report writing along with a type test demonstrating your ability to type a minimum of 25wpm. The NPOST exam will be offered specific dates from April to October. For an appointment, call the BATC Assessment Center at 435-750-3188. Test scores are good indefinitely.
  • Submit your completed application to the Academy Basic Training Technician on or before the application deadline of Nov. 1 at 3 p.m.
