Certificate Description

A veterinarian assistant/pre-vet technician is a professional who acts as support staff for the veterinarian and others while helping animals in need.

Range of duties include animal restraint, nursing care, radiology, routine lab procedures, blood collection, catheterization, dental cleanings, administration of vaccines, physical exams, client services, front office duties, general cleaning of exam rooms and kennels, CPR/First Aid, etc. This program will prepare students to work at veterinary clinics or to seek further education in the veterinary field.

This specialization is delivered face-to-face and may contain online components.

High school diploma or GED prior to admission, CPR fee (varies; adult students only), non-refundable $50 background check fee, must be 18 years or older to submit to the background check to enter the adult program. An assessment of basic reading, math, ratios/proportions, fractions/percents, and keyboarding. Call (435) 750-3188 to schedule an appointment.

Employment Outlook

Recent surveys of local veterinary clinics indicate a need for well-trained veterinarian assistants who have had significant supervised clinical experience. The employment outlook for veterinary assistant/pre-vet technicians is expected to grow 14 percent (about as fast as average) through 2020 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Job openings will stem from an increase of pet owners who are willing to pay for advanced care for pets they consider to be part of their family.

When Can I Start?

Bridgerland Technical College is open year round. Most programs are open-entry, which means you can start the program at the first of every month as long as there is space available in the program. Because of demand, some programs have waiting lists to get in to the program. Please contact Student Services for information on those programs with waiting lists and defined starting dates.

Is There Financial Aid?

Bridgerland Technical College participates in a variety of assistance programs that aid students in covering the costs associated with enrollment in full-time certificate programs. The Financial Aid Office provides information for grants, scholarships, and VA education benefits. Bridgerland Technical College does not participate in or endorse any loan program. How much does a program Cost? Can I make payments? Are all tuition and fees due upfront?

Most programs take about one year to complete. Each individual program page has tuition and fee amounts listed. Students can be setup on a payment plan and make payments each month (due on the 1st).
